
Four Gamecock Football Players Earn All-America Honors

Jacksonville State's Griffin Thomas, DaMarcus James, Max Holcombe and freshman Josh Barge were all named All-American, as announced by Phil Steele's College Football Preview on Friday.
Thomas was named first-team, while James and Holcombe were each named fourth-team All-American. Barge was named to the freshman All-American squad.
Thomas finished as one of the top kickers in the country after setting numerous Ohio Valley Conference and school records during the 2013 season and was a first-team All-OVC selection.
The Snellville, Ga., native set the OVC records for made field goals (24) field goal attempts (32) and points scored by kicking (134), and he also finished 62-of-63 on extra points this season, which were also both school records.
James had a record-breaking season, where he has rushed for 1,477 yards on 292 carries to set the school's single-season rushing record. The junior running back also set the OVC record with 29 rushing touchdowns to finish second in the nation, and he scored a rushing touchdown in the final 12 games of the season to extend his school record.
The Demopolis, Ala., native now has 35 career rushing touchdowns, which is the third most in school history, and his 13 career 100-yard rushing games is also the second most in school history.
Holcombe, from Tuscaloosa, has started 37 straight games for the Gamecocks and is the anchor on the offensive line. He played a total of 1138 snaps and posted the highest grade on the offensive line at just over 87 percent for the season. The Gamecocks led the Ohio Valley Conference in rushing with an average of 239.1 yards per game to rank 12th nationally, and finished with an OVC record 48 rushing touchdowns.
Barge set the school's freshman receiving record with 885 yards on 58 catches to lead all of the Gamecock receivers. The Carrollton, Ga., native averaged 59.0 yards per game and 15.33 yards per reception, while he posted a team-high four 100-yard receiving games. His 885 receiving yards also ranked among the Top 10 single-season pass receiving performances.
The Gamecocks advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals and posted an 11-4 overall record and was ranked No. 10 in the final The Sports Network football poll. JSU also set 49 school records, 13 OVC records and three NCAA records during the 2013 season.

The Gamecocks then defeated No. 6 McNeese State 35-10 in the second round to advance to play No. 2 Eastern Washington in the quarter-final round.
