JSU's Stam Breaks 5,000 Meter Record at USM Cupid Classic

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Senior distance runner Ericka Stam continues to make her mark on the Jacksonville State track and field record book after breaking the school record in the women's 5,000 meter run en route to winning the event at the USM Cupid Classic.

Stam, who was an All-Ohio Valley Conference performer during the cross country season, broke her own established record of 18:02.27, which she set back on Feb. 24, 2012.  The Keller, Texas-native claimed gold in the event at the Birmingham Crossplex with a time of 18:00.70.  She finished 15 second better than the second place finisher.

Senior Kevyn Tracy posted a quality time in the mile run with a season-best mark of 5:15.75. JaNisha Davis turned in a top-10 placement in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.79.

The Gamecocks will now turn their attention to the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships that will take place in Nashville, Tenn., hosted by Tennessee State University.  Competition will get underway on Friday, Feb. 28.
