Jax State Releases First Depth Chart of Preseason
8/20/2014 3:23:00 PM | Football
Jacksonville State head coach John Grass released the first depth chart of the 2014 preseason on Wednesday.
"These are guys that have worked hard," said Grass. "They've worked hard to get into that two-deep. There are some guys that I've talked about that are right behind them. We don't list those guys because everybody asks for a two-deep, but we have several guys on the verge.
"I feel like we've got three guys at a lot of spots that can play, so there were a few guys that got left off," added Grass. "Hats off to the guys that got to be in that two-deep."
Jacksonville State University will host its annual Football Fan Day on Saturday, August 23, in conjunction with the City of Jacksonville's "Spirit on Mountain Street" event.
The 2014 Gamecock football players and coaching staff will be available for autographs at 3 p.m. at Stephenson Hall. The JSU Cheerleaders and Cocky will also be on hand to sign autographs and give away free schedule posters.
The City of Jacksonville and area civic organizations will be hosting their annual "Taste of the Town," which is local tasters fair benefiting JCOC, a local non profit organization that offers short-term assistance for individuals and families in need. This event will be held on the main ticket plaza of Burgess-Snow Field and will begin at 4 p.m.
There will also be a Kids Zone, which is sponsored by the Jacksonville Exchange Club on Gamecock Field, beginning at 4 p.m. All proceeds from the Kids Zone will go to prevent child abuse.
Following the "Taste of the Town," the University will host its annual Community Pep Rally for Jacksonville State University, and local high school football teams including Jacksonville, Jacksonville Christian Academy, Weaver and White Plains.
The JSU Marching Southerners and Ballerinas will perform at 5:45 p.m. inside Burgess-Snow Field, followed by the Pep Rally at 6 p.m. The Jacksonville State football team will then hold an open scrimmage inside JSU Stadium.
The Gamecocks will get the 2014 season underway on Friday, Aug. 29, at Michigan State. The Spartans are coming off a 12-1 season that saw them win the Big Ten title before defeating Stanford in the Rose Bowl to earn a No. 3 national ranking.
JSU's home opener is scheduled for Sept. 20 against old rival West Alabama at 3 p.m. Season tickets are available online at www.jsugamecocksports.com or by calling (256) 782-8499.
