JSU Soccer Falls To Southeast Missouri

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – For the second Sunday in a row, the Jacksonville State dropped a tough 1-0 decision as Southeast Missouri recorded an early goal at Houck Stadium to secure the win on the home pitch.

The Gamecocks wrap up the weekend with a 1-1 mark after earning a 2-0 win on Friday evening at UT Martin.  JSU, who will be idle this coming Friday before hosting Eastern Kentucky next Sunday, stands at 7-8-1 overall and 4-3-1 in Ohio Valley Conference play.  SEMO moved to 8-5-3 overall and 3-2-2 in the conference.

SEMO's Lauren Kaempfe capitalized on a deflected shot off of a JSU defender to score from the middle of the box in the fourth minute of the contest.  Kaempfe's goal was all the Redhawks needed as the Gamecocks could not equalize over the next 86 minutes of the match.  JSU had its chances with seven shots, including three on goal chances.  SEMO finished the game with nine total shots.
Senior Kelsey Bright led the JSU offensive threat with three shots with two on goal opportunities.  Bright, from Kingwood, Texas, moved past the 200 career shots threshold on Sunday and moved her in to second place on JSU's all-time career shots list behind former Gamecock Jackie Rush, who holds the program's all-time mark with 210 career shots.

Senior Kristen Hoo had Jax State's other on goal scoring chance in the 35th minute with a 1v1 against SEMO's goalkeeper Kindra Lierz, but Lierz swatted away Hoo's attempt.

JSU's regular season finale on Sunday, Oct. 25 with EKU will get underway at 1 p.m.  Admission is free to all JSU soccer matches.
