BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Jacksonville State's
Eli Jenkins was named the Ohio Valley Conference's Offensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season after his big day on Saturday.
Jenkins, a 6-foot-2 junior from Birmingham, rolled up more than 340 yards of total offense and scored five touchdowns to lead the top-ranked Gamecocks to a 42-20 victory over Murray State in the 2015 regular season finale. Jenkins threw for 212 yards and two touchdowns on 15-of-30 passing, but it was his legs that put most of the points on the board, as he rushed for 130 yards on 11 carries and tied his career high with TD runs of seven, 24, and 65 yards.
It marked the fifth time Jenkins has thrown for over 100 yards and rushed for more than 100 yards, and JSU is a perfect 5-0 in those contests. It was the first time that Jenkins has thrown for more than 200 yards while also rushing for 100 yards in a single-game.
His 2,185 passing yards this season is the seventh-highest single-season total in school history, while is 4,942 career passing yards are fifth in the JSU books.
Jenkins also became just the second player in JSU history to top 7,000 career yards of total offense in the game and now has 7,233 to only trail Montressa Kirby's school record of 7,688. JSU is now 25-0 in regular season games against non-FBS opponents when Jenkins starts the game.
