Live Audio | Live Stats vs. Tuskegee | Live Stats vs. Alabama State

JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State will host its annual Christmas with the Gamecocks at Sunday's basketball doubleheader inside Pete Mathews Coliseum.

The Jax State women will take on NCAA Division II foe Tuskegee University at 1 p.m., followed by the men's contest with the Hornets of Alabama State at 3 p.m.  All children receive free admission and can win one of several prizes that include bikes and riding cars.

JSU leads the overall series with the Hornets, 6-4 and is 4-2 at Pete Mathews Coliseum. The series was evened at 2-2 in Montgomery last season when ASU took an 80-55 victory. This will be the second SWAC opponent the Gamecocks have faced in 2015-16, having lost a hard-fought contest to Alabama A&M last month. The loss to the A&M snapped a 12-game home winning streak for JSU against non-conference opponents.

Jax State closes out a brief three-game homestand against ASU, and will be looking to avoid dropping each game after falling by single digits to both Samford and Jacksonville during the stretch.

Sophomore Malcolm Drumwright's 15.7 points per game average paces JSU's offense. The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., native has been stellar over the past few games. He poured in 21 points against Samford lasr week, before dropping a career-high 30 against the Dolphins of Jacksonville. It was the first 30-point game for a JSU player in a 77-game span since Tarvin Gaines scored 31 during the 2012-13 season.

Newcomer Erik Durham is averaging 13.4 points and five rebounds, while senior JaQuail Townser is scoring almost 10 per game.

The JSU women (2-6) return to competition for the first time since December 4 after suffering a tough 60-56 overtime loss at Georgia Southern.  The Gamecocks will look to continue their success at home as both wins have come at Pete Mathews Coliseum.  In the last outing on the home floor, JSU posted a come-from-behind win over Alcorn State.  Jax State has won eight of the last nine home non-conference match ups.

The Gamecocks and Tigerettes will be meeting for the third time overall and the first time since the 1984-85 season.  TU owns two wins over the Gamecocks heading in to Sunday's contest.  The Tigerettes will bring a 1-6 overall mark in to the contest.

Offensively, JSU has balanced the scoring with junior Briana Benson leading the way with 10.8 points per game.  Sophomore Gretchen Morrison has bumped her scoring clip to 8.5 points per outing, followed by junior guard Kelly Naughton's 8.1 points mark.

The freshmen duo of Chloe Long and Rayven Pearson have quickly made the adjustment from the prep level and contributed right away.  Long, who has started the last three games, has scored in double figures in all three starts.  Against Georgia Southern, the Hazel Green, Alabama native turned in 18 points in just 21 minutes of action.  In the last three games, Long has averaged 13.7 points per game and 6.7 boards per outing.
