JACKSONVILLE – For the second consecutive weekend, the weather has forced changes for Jacksonville State's Ohio Valley Conference baseball series at Austin Peay at Raymond C. Hand Park on the APSU campus this weekend.
With the forecast of heavy rain on Friday in the Clarksville, Tennessee area, the start of the three-game series will be pushed back to Saturday, March 14. The Gamecocks and Governors will play single games each day on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. First pitch on Saturday is set for 6 p.m., followed by Sunday's 2 p.m. start time. The series finale on Monday is slated to get underway at 1 p.m. All three games will be available on the Gamecock Sports Network with a live audio stream at JSUGamecockSports.com.
JSU (7-6) enters the weekend looking to continue the momentum from an 18-4 rout of Troy on Wednesday night at Rudy Abbott Field. The Gamecocks pounded out a season-high 17 hits in the midweek action. Jax State looks to regroup in conference play after dropping the first three games of the OVC last weekend at home against SIU Edwardsville. The weekend rotation will stay the same for JSU as senior
Zachary Fowler (1-2, 4.64 ERA) will start the opener on Saturday, followed by senior
Tony Urban (2-2, 5.19 ERA) in Sunday's contest. JSU's Monday starter is yet to be determined.
APSU starts the weekend 9-4 overall and 3-0 in the league after sweeping Eastern Illinois last weekend in a series that was originally scheduled for Charleston, Illinois, but was moved to Clarksville due to the winter weather last weekend. The Govs topped UT Martin, 5-2, on Wednesday in non-conference action.
