ACWORTH, Ga. – The Jacksonville State men's tennis team dropped it second consecutive match as the Gamecocks dropped a 5-2 decision to Kennesaw State on Wednesday prior to the cold front that is sweeping through the region.
The loss drops JSU to 4-6 on the season, while the Owls pushed their overall mark to 3-5.
KSU started string by taking the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and 3. The Owls' pairing of Simon Pritchard and Jorge Wilton topped JSU's No. 2 duo of Dylan Gee and Mathias Chaim, 8-3. The first point of the match came after Jake Bouchillon and Alejandro Valencia of KSU turned back Jax State's duo of Jaryd Reese and Felipe Wenzel, 8-4.
Gee and Chaim recorded the Gamecocks' pair of points after posting wins on singles at No. 3 and 5 respectively. Gee won his fifth singles match of the year and the fourth at the No. 3 spot after his opponent Bouchillon retired in the second set. Gee opened the match with a 6-4 win, and trailed 5-2 before he was awarded the win after Bouchillon retired.
Chaim ousted Wilton at No. 5 in straight sets with a 6-4, 6-3 win. Chaim won his third match of the season and his first at the No. 5 spot in the line up. Wendler-Filho suffered a tough loss at No. 2 after winning the first set over Alejandro Valencia. After falling to Wendler-Filho, 6-4, in the opener, Valencia bounced back for the win, 6-4, 10-3.
JSU now turns its attention to Ohio Valley Conference play as they travel to Morehead State on March 13 and Eastern Kentucky on March 14.
