BIRMINGHAM – Jacksonville State jumped on Samford but the rains came and eventually canceled Wednesday's game with the Gamecocks leading 3-0 in the second inning.
Senior
Sara Borders got the Gamecocks on the board and did so quickly, belting a three-run homer in the first. After a one-out single from
Taylor Sloan and a hit by pitch from
Ella Denes, the senior turned on Mollie Hanson's pitch and hit it well over the wall in right center to give JSU a 3-0 advantage.
After JSU retired Samford in the bottom of the first and then put a runner on in the second, the rains began to fall. After about an hour of rain fell on Samford Field, the umpires deemed conditions unplayable and called off the game. No make up date has been set.
The Gamecocks head to Charleston, S.C., for the final nonconference weekend of the season this weekend, where they will compete in Charleston Southern's tournament. JSU will open play on Friday against Wright State at 8 a.m. CT before facing Iona at 10 a.m. CT.
