NASHVILLE - After Jacksonville State took just its second lead on its lone three-point basket of the day with 5:15 left, Belmont finished the game with a 15-4 scoring run to eliminate the Gamecocks, 55-45, from the 2015 Ohio Valley Conference Women's Basketball Tournament on a snowy day in the Music City on Thursday.
The loss wraps up one of the most successful seasons for Jax State in its NCAA Division I era. JSU finishes the season at 19-10 overall, the most wins by the program since making the move to Division I. The Red and White turned in a 10-6 record against OVC competition and the 10 wins ranks second for the program since joining the league.
For the second consecutive game against the Bruins, the Gamecocks struggled to make shots throughout the game. JSU's 45 points is a season-low and finished the first half with just 16 points. After shooting just 23 percent from the from field in the last meeting between the two squads in Jacksonville, JSU was slightly better at Municipal Auditorium as they hit 33 percent in the neutral site affair. JSU finished 22-of-66 or the contest and was 1-of-12 from behind the three-point arc. The Bruins have had JSU's number in the last four meetings, including last season's OVC semifinal loss in 2014.
