Ryan Sebra is getting a chance to follow in his father's footsteps after inking a free agent contract with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim late last week.
Sebra finished his Jacksonville State career this past season as the club's primary third baseman and led the Gamecocks at the plate throughout the 2015 campaign. He led Jax State in home runs with ten. Sebra was an offensive mainstay for the Gamecocks in 2015. He ranks second on the team in batting with a .341 clip. He collected 77 hits, including 29 extra base hits this season. He turned in 24 multi-hits contests and 14 multiple RBI games for Jax State. Earlier during the 2015 campaign he strung together a 13-game hitting streak. In Ohio Valley Conference games only, Sebra hit a team-best .434 and had 50 hits in the 29 league games. Sebra reached base in 26 of the 29 OVC games and had a 17-game OVC games only hitting streak. He earned a spot on the league's All-OVC second team.
Sebra's father, Bob, is a former pitcher in the major leagues and spent time with the Philadelphia Phillies, Montreal Expos, Cincinnati Reds, Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, Milwaukee Brewers, Texas Rangers and the Houston Astros.
He recently earned the distinction of being named an Academic All-America honoree by being named to the 2015 Capital One Academic All-America Second Team.
The Ormond Beach, Florida-native has reported to the club's Arizona Fall League in Tempe, Arizona.
