LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Jacksonville State men's basketball team is on the road this Thanksgiving to participate in the Global Sports Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. The Gamecocks are scheduled to square off against Cal State Fullerton on Friday and a team to be announced on Saturday at UNLV's Thomas & Mack Arena.
The Gamecocks hit the court against the Titans on Nov. 25, and the outcome of that game will decided their opponent for Nov. 26. JSU will either take on Alabama State or Northern Arizona
in the 1 p.m. CT/11 a.m. PT time slot or the 3:30 p.m. CT/1:30 p.m. PT slot. JSU is currently 0-2 in the Global Sports Classic, taking a 74-67 loss to WKU and 79-60 loss at TCU in the preliminaries.Â
Head coach
Ray Harper's squad is coming off a lopsided 81-50 home win over Dalton State. The home win was the first since topping UT Martin 82-60 last season, and it was the first non-conference home victory since downing Northern Colorado 79-76 on December 21, 2015. Junior
Norbertas Giga led the way with the team's first double-double of the season, collecting 12 points and 11 rebounds.Â
Cal State Fullerton enters the weekend on a two-game skid. The Titans also suffered losses in the prelims of the tournament, falling 104-88 to Washington and 77-68 to the hosting Rebels. Fullerton began the season with a couple of wins over Caltech (77-28) and Portland State (106-100, 2 OT).Â
Redshirt senior Tre' Coggins
has scored double figures in all three games he's played this season, hitting at least three 3-pointers in each game including a career best eight against Portland State on Nov. 13.
