Jacksonville State Notes
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The Jacksonville State men's basketball team continues its hectic road schedule Tuesday in Montgomery, taking on Alabama State at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome at 7 p.m.
The Gamecocks are coming off a successful road trip to Las Vegas, Nev., where they picked up two wins at the Global Sports Classic. JSU dropped Cal State Fullerton on Friday and Northern Arizona on Saturday to extend its winning streak to three games.
Erik Durham came away with some gold following the trek to Las Vegas, earning a spot on the all-tournament team. The senior totaled 33 points on the weekend and knocked down 10 3-pointers (10-for-15) over the two-day trip. Including the preliminary games at TCU and Western Kentucky, Durham put up a four-game total 62 points in the tournament.
Jacksonville State's 4-3 record marks the best start through seven games since the beginning of the 2014-15 season when that year's Gamecock squad was also 4-3. The last time a JSU team began the season 5-3 through eight games was the 2012-13 season: the last year the Gamecocks finished with a +.500 record (17-11).
Alabama State has struggled in the early goings, dropping to 1-5 following a two-game split in Las Vegas. The Hornets competed in the same bracket as the Gamecocks in the Global Sports Classic, but a loss to Northern Arizona matched them with Cal State Fullerton in the consolation game. Alabama State topped the Titans 76-67 in OT to claim its first win of the year.
Following Tuesday's matchup, the Gamecocks are set to take on Samford in Birmingham on Sunday, Dec. 4 at 3 p.m.
