
Men's Tennis Falls to Troy in final non-conference match

TROY, Ala. – The Jacksonville State men's tennis team closed out the non-conference schedule on Wednesday with a 7-0 loss to in-state rival Troy.
The Gamecocks, who will return to Ohio Valley Conference play this weekend on the road in Illinois, dropped to 7-12 overall, while the Trojans improved to 14-11 on the season.
The Trojans started strong in doubles and continued that play into singles. Troy took the doubles point with wins at No 1 and 3 doubles. The Trojan duo of Andy Lau and Pablo Moreno topped Jax State's top pairing of Andres Gomez and Liu Shao Chun, 6-3. The JSU combo of Pedro Wagner and Mathias Chaim fell to Troy's Hassan Ndayishimiye and Giovani Samaha by the identical score at No. 3.
Junior Jaryd Reese was inserted into the top singles spot to face Troy's Daniel Bustamante, but dropped a 6-2, 6-0 contest. Moreno downed Chaim at No. 2, 6-1, 6-1, while Shao Chun battled Samaha, who is ranked 18th in the NCAA Singles rankings, before falling in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Gomez dropped a tough straight sets match to Troy's Andy Lau, 6-4, 7-6(3).
Junior Austion McCormick forced a third-and-deciding set at No. 6 with Ndayishimiye after taking the second set, 7-6, but dropped the match with a 10-3 loss in the super tiebreaker.
The Gamecocks will take on Eastern Illinois on Friday, April 8, followed by a Saturday match at SIU Edwardsville. JSU enters the final OVC road trip at 3-2 in league play on the men's side, while the Jax State women enter the weekend at 4-2 in the conference.
