BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – For the second time this season, senior Whitley Towns and sophomore Courtney Bennett have broken the Jacksonville State record in the 1500 meter run and shot put as the pair led JSU at the Hilltopper Relays, hosted by Western Kentucky University.

Towns, from Boaz, Alabama, established the program's previous record earlier this season on March 26 at the Emory Classic with a time of 4:39.42.  She was 44 seconds better on Saturday with a time of 4:38.98 and reached the medal stand with a third-place finish.  Her mark in the distance event ranks sixth in the Ohio Valley Conference.  Bennett broke the JSU record in the shot put with a toss of 46'25", which was sixth-best in the event.  Her previous record in the event was 45' 9 ¼" established on March 19 at the Alabama Relays.  Bennett's mark ranks among the OVC's best and just shy of being in the top three tosses in the conference.

Three other Gamecocks had a career day in their respective events, including two in field events.  Senior Mallory McGuire registered a career best in the javelin with a toss of 119'0" to finish sixth in the event.  Sophomore Samantha Patterson posted a career best leap of 11'8.75" in the pole vault.

On the track, Jasmine Parham clocked a time of 64.11 in the 400 meter hurdles event, which was her personal best.  Her finish was a top-10 placement in the event.

Jax State returns to action next weekend, competing in the South Alabama Invitational in Mobile, Alabama.
