JACKSONVILLE – Louisiana Tech scored an early goal and fended off Jacksonville State to record a 1-0 result in women's college soccer action at the JSU Soccer Field on Friday night.
The Gamecocks, playing their fourth match in a span of a week, dropped to 1-4-1 on the season, while Tech improved to 4-1-1 overall. After a tough stretch of matches against solid sides, JSU will be idle on Sunday and will prep for Jackson State on Friday, Sept. 9 on the Jax State campus. Tech will face Tennessee Tech on Sunday in Cookeville, Tennessee.
Tech's Madison Doll collected the game-winning goal in the 6
th minute after a corner kick that deflected off the crossbar to Doll for the score. Tech's Jaelyn Peeples was credited with the assist on the lone goal of the night.
JSU pressured the Lady Techsters throughout the contest and had the advantage in shots on goal with five of the club's nine shots being in range. Senior
Carsen Taylor had two of the three in the contest, while sophomore
Kayla Thompson's ball that got past the keeper was just left of the back of the net. Senior
Nicola Dominikovich also had multiple shot attempts. JSU had five shots in the opening 45 minutes and four in the second half.
Junior goalkeeper
Caroline Robinson collected one save, while Tech's Kylee Seto turned in five stops.
Peeples and Lisanne Kleygrewe led Tech in shots with two each on the night.
Jax State's contest with the Tigers of JSU will get started at 7 p.m. Admission is free to all JSU soccer matches.
