RICHMOND, Ky. – The Jacksonville State soccer team closed out the opening weekend of Ohio Valley Conference play with a 3-0 loss to Eastern Kentucky on Sunday afternoon on the EKU campus.

The setback drops the Gamecocks to 3-7-1 overall and 0-2 in the OVC after falling on Friday to Tennessee Tech, 2-1.  The Colonels of EKU (7-2, 2-0 OVC) continued their winning streak to seven in a row after opening the season with a pair of losses.

EKU controlled the match throughout with a 21-2 advantage in total shots, including 13 in the first half.  EKU added eight in the second half, while limiting Jax State to one shot in each 45 minute session.  The Colonels took the lead in the 40^th minute of the contest with a rebound shot by Bailey Bounds that found the upper left of the goal.

EKU quickly added to its lead in the opening five minutes of the second half as Tara Claus connected on her second goal of the season with a shot from 15 yards out to the top left corner of the net.  The Colonels tacked on an insurance goal in the 64^th minute by Kayla Childs. 

JSU's Kayla Thompson had the club's shot in the opening half, while freshman Danielle Monroe was credited with a shot in the second half.  Goalkeeper Caroline Robinson collected six saves, including five in the first half.

The opening weekend of conference play closed out a five-match road trip for JSU as it returns home next weekend, hosting OVC foes Eastern Illinois on Friday, Sept. 30 and SIU Edwardsville on Sunday, Oct. 2.  The JSU-EIU contest will get started at 7 p.m., while the Sunday match will kick at 1 p.m.  Admission is free to all JSU soccer matches.
