JACKSONVILLE – Eastern Kentucky proved why it has been a front runner in the Ohio Valley Conference this season after weathering a strong performance by Jacksonville State as the Colonels claimed a 1-0 decision in overtime on Friday night at the JSU Soccer Field.
EKU's Jordan Foster was successful on her eighth shot of the 95-plus minute contest as she booted the game-winning goal in the 95th minute to keep the Colonels unbeaten in the OVC. Foster took a throw in from Bailly Bounds on the left side of the box and sent the ball in to the net just inside the right post. EKU moved to 8-3-4, 5-0-3 in the OVC.
The Gamecocks went toe-to-toe with EJU throughout the night and had ample chances of registering a goal. JSU (5-9-2, 2-6 OVC) posted 12 shots in the setback and had three on goal opportunities. JSU had a trio of individuals with multiple shots, led by junior
Madison Carruthers. Carruthers matched her career high in shot attempts with a team-best four against EKU. Sophomore
Danielle Monroe and junior
Claire Petersen had two shots each.
The match was level throughout as EKU finished with 12 total shots and three on goal chances. Foster had all three of the on goal strikes. JSU senior goalkeeper
