The JSU women will open the day with a 2 p.m. tip against the Governors of Austin Peay. Head coach
Rick Pietri's squad is riding a six-game home-winning streak, and have won 10 of their 11 overall inside Pete Mathews Coliseum dating back to last year.Â
Â
The Gamecocks (10-6, 4-1 OVC) are coming off an exhilarating 97-65 victory over Murray State on Thursday night, which propelled Jax State to second in the conference standings. APSU enters with an identical 10-6 overall mark, but stumbled to 3-2 in the league on Thursday falling to Tennessee Tech for the Golden Eagles' first OVC win of the year.
Â
Under Pietri, JSU is 2-2 versus Austin Peay, only meeting once a year under the old 16-game OVC schedule format. The Gamecocks and Governors will exchange home and away visits this year for he first time since the 2010-11 season. Overall, APSU leads the all-time series, 15-9, heading into the 25th matchup.
Â
Against MSU, JSU saw six Gamecocks score in double figures led by senior
Tyler Phelion (15) and junior
Rayven Pearson (14), who also both notched double-doubles. Jax State matched a program Division I record with 41 made field goals, and set a new Division I school record with 28 assists in the process. The Gamecocks are averaging 66 points per game this year, but have improved that mark 72 points since entering league play on Dec. 28. Meanwhile, JSU's stellar scoring defense continues to be the toughest in the OVC allowing just 57.2 points per contest.

The Gamecocks are coming off a 76-71 win over Murray State, knocking off the last remaining undefeated team in the OVC. The win over the Racers forced a five-way tie for first place, setting up another pivotal matchup Saturday against yet another team tied for first – Austin Peay at 4-1 in league play.
Â
Junior
Marlon Hunter had a tremendous outing against the Racers on Thursday, scoring a career-high 21 points in the five-point win. He and senior
Malcolm Drumwright, who posted his fifth 20-point game of the season, led the Gamecocks to just their second win over MSU in program history.
Â
Thursday's win came in front of a crowd of 3,004 at Pete Mathews Coliseum as fans helped Jacksonville State "Red Out the Racers." The crowd was the largest in five seasons, dating back to JSU's first win over Murray State on Jan. 26, 2013 in front of 3,478.
Â
Austin Peay comes into the matchup with its lone OVC loss coming against Tennessee Tech, who is also tied for first place in the league. Freshman Terry Taylor is leading the Govs' lineup with 15.7 points per game and is averaging 8.4 boards per contest. He's a four-time OVC Freshman of the Week, winning the award most recently last week.
