JSU's women's basketball team aims to bounce back from a tough overtime loss to UT Martin at home on Thursday night, when it welcomes Southeast Missouri to The Pete on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30.
Â
JSU (12-8, 6-3 OVC) still sits third in the league standings at the midway point of the season, despite recent back-to-back losses. The Redhawks enter Saturday's meeting only a game behind with a 5-4 league record, coming off consecutive road wins at Eastern Ilinois and Tennessee Tech. The Redhawks lead the all-time series, 17-5, but after SEMO won 12 of the first 13 meetings once Jax State joined the OVC in 2004, the Gamecocks have won four of the past nine matchups.
Â
Junior
Rayven Pearson's near double-double average leads JSU in scoring (9.9) and rebound (9.8). However, since entering conference play, senior
Tyler Phelion has also bumped her scoring average up to 9.9 points per game, followed by freshman
Taylor Hawks. The Gamecocks were led offensively by sophomore
Morgan Towells on Thursday as the Atlanta, Ga., native tallied 11 points off the bench. Senior
Gretchen Morrison pitched in nine points shooting 3-of-6 from three-point range.
Â
Saturday marks the only regular season meeting between JSU and SEMO, elevating the importance of a contest that could determine tournament seeding toward the end of February. The game will be broadcast live on the OVC Digital Network. JSU will go for its ninth home win of the season, which would be the most in three years.

The Gamecocks (15-7, 6-3 OVC) look to salvage one win from the two-game home stint following a heartbreak loss to UT Martin Thursday night at The Pete. Despite a 22-point showing from senior
Malcolm Drumwright, timely 3-point shooting from the Skyhawks late downed JSU 67-63 in the final minutes of the contest.
Â
Saturday's meeting between Southeast Missouri (10-12, 4-5 OVC) and Jacksonville State marks the 24th of the series. Since snapping a two-game skid to the Redhawks in 2015, JSU has won three consecutive over SEMO, including a second-round victory at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships in Nashville just last season.
Â
Drumwright posted 20 points Jan. 11 against Murray State and Jan. 13 against Austin Peay at home, 20 more on Jan. 20 at Eastern Kentucky and 22 points Jan. 25 against UT Martin. The 22-point performance against the Skyhawks was his eighth 20-point game of the season and 18th of his career. He has surpassed his career-record for 20-point games in a season, having recorded six 20-point games in 2016-17.
The Gamecocks have had at least one player score 20 points in their last five games. Along with Drumwright's impressive string of four 20-point contests in his last five,
Jason Burnell kept the streak alive with 20 points at Morehead State on Jan. 20.
Â
Following Burnell's career-high 20-point game at Morehead, he set another career-best Thursday against UT Martin when he pulled down 10 of the Gamecocks 48 rebounds.
