JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State men's basketball coach
Ray Harper announced the signing of four future Gamecocks on Tuesday.
Â
Harper, along with assistant coaches
Jake Morton,
Chase Richardson and
Tommy Wade, inked the group to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period.
Â
Martin Roub (Kolin, Czech Republic), Keiodre Perry (Covington, Ga.), Juwan Perdue (Sumter, S.C.) and Marek Welsch (Holice, Czech Republic) will don Jacksonville State uniforms beginning with the 2019-2020 season.
Â
"I'm excited about all four of these guys," Harper said. "First and foremost, they're high-character kids. They're great student athletes who will bring a lot to Jacksonville State both on the court and in the classroom.
Â
"Our staff did an unbelievable job of identifying these guys early. I couldn't ask for a better early-signing class than these four young men."
Â

Martin Roub
Forward | 6-foot-10 | 205 lbs. | Kolin, Czech Republic | Western Nebraska Community College
Â
Roub is in his sophomore season at Western Nebraska where he has started 40 of 45 games in two years with the Cougars. Last season he led WNCC to a 27-8 record and a second-round appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament. The 6-foot-10 forward scored 18 points in Western Nebraska's 86-78 win over Otero Junior College to claim the Region IX championship.
Â
"He's unique in that he can score with his back to the basket but is also an unbelievable 3-point shooter," Harper said. "I saw him make 10 or 12 this summer, so he's going to bring a whole new dynamic to our basketball team. Â
Â
In 10 games as a sophomore, Roub is shooting 52.9 percent and averaging more than 16 points per game. Of his 63 field goals this season, 19 have been from long range for a 42.2 3-point percentage. In addition, the Cougars' starting forward is averaging seven boards per game.
Â
Roub is a native of Kolin, Central Bohemian of the Czech Republic and prepped at Sports Secondary Grammar School. While at home, he played for BK JIP Pardubice of the NBL in the International regular season and competed in the FIBA Euro Championships four years.
Â

Â
Keiodre Perry
Guard | 6-foot-4 | 180 lbs. | Covington, Ga. | Northern Oklahoma College – Tonkawa
Â
Perry is in the midst of his sophomore season at Northern Oklahoma College – Tonkawa where he has started all nine games for the Mavericks this season. He helped the Mavs to a 24-8 season his freshman year, helping NOC-T to its third consecutive season of more than 20 wins.
Â
"He's a dynamic player that can score the basketball at all three levels," Harper said. "I think he has the ability to be a lock-down defender on the perimeter. He's long, athletic and is a high-energy guy."
Â
He is averaging nearly 15 points per game as a sophomore and has four games in his career in which he has scored 20 or more points. His current career-high is 22, scored Nov. 3 in a 77-70 win over Metropolitan Community College.
Â
Perry hails from Covington, Ga., where he lettered at Eastside High School. As a senior in 2017, he averaged 23 points per game and was a 4A First Team All-State selection. He was named the 2017 Region Four 4A Player of the Year in his final season with the Eagles.
Â

Marek Welsch
Guard | 5-foot-11 | 180 lbs. | Holice, Czech Republic | Get Better Academy
Â
Welsch is a senior at Get Better Academy in Prague, Czech Republic where he was teammates with current Gamecock freshman
Maros Zeliznak. As a junior, Welsch averaged nearly 20 points per contest and pitched in four assists per game at GBA. The 5-foot-11 guard also reeled in five rebounds per game and averaged 2.4 steals.
Â
"He has such a high basketball IQ," stated Harper. "He really knows how to play and is a big-time shooter. He's tough as nails and can make an impact from day one."
Â
He was a member of the Czech Republic National Team U18 in 2017. He scored 9.8 points per game and upped his steals average to 2.8 per game. His 5.5 assists per game ranked second in the FIBA U18 Championships that year.
Â
Welsch has a strong basketball pedigree. His father, Petr, played professionally in the Czech Republic and Poland for a number of years, and his uncle, Jiri, five years in the NBA. Following his stint in the NBA, Jiri continues to play professional basketball for CEZ Nymburk of the top-tier Czech National League.
Â

Juwan Perdue
Forward | 6-foot-6 | 190 lbs. | Sumter, S.C. | Lakewood High School
Â
Perdue is a senior at Lakewood High School in Sumter, S.C., where he has gained attention as a defensive phenom. The 6-foot-6 forward has the shiftiness to guard at the point and the timing to defend at the wings.
Â
"He's another super athlete," Harper said. "He's versatile. You can play him at the three or the four, and he's a guy who is going to do nothing but get better over the next four years. He's another high-energy, explosive athlete who we're looking forward to adding to our roster next season."
Â
Perdue, a letter winner in both basketball and football at Lakewood, chose Jacksonville State over offers from Austin Peay, Radford and South Carolina State. He is ranked in the top 50 players in the state of South Carolina by Max Preps and was named a Top 5 4A Region player going into his senior season. He was a Region Six 4A All-Region selection as a junior when he averaged 11 points, eight rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.
Â
Perdue has helped Lakewood to back-to-back 4A Region Championships, keeping the Gators a Top 5 team in the state of South Carolina. He received the team distinction of Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore under head coach Bryan Brown.
