
Women's Tennis Defeats Kennesaw State 5-2 at Home

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State women's tennis team downed Kennesaw State 5-2 at the JSU Tennis Courts on Tuesday, remaining undefeated to begin the 2018 season.
"Our girls are playing great doubles and their energy is helping them play good tennis," head coach Andres Amores said. "They are working together as a team and today they showed a great level of tennis throughout the day."
The Gamecocks (7-0, 0-0 OVC), ranked 77th by the ITA, jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead with the doubles point. Malin Buechner and Alba Conejero took their set 6-1, while Diana Monsalve and Marine Alberteau claimed a 6-3 set to secure the point.
JSU dropped its matchups at No. 1 and No. 2 but swept the remaining four contests to pick up its seventh win of the year. Buechner scored a win over Kennesaw State (1-6, 0-0 A-Sun) No. 3 Christina Perez Martin 6-3 and 6-4, and Elena Tendero picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win over Laura Hopton. Diana Monsalve and Alba Conejero cleaned up at No. 5 and No. 6 for the fourth and fifth points of the day.
The Jacksonville State women are back in action Wednesday, Feb. 28 at Mercer University at 2:30 p.m. The Gamecocks return home March 9 at noon to take on UT Martin to begin OVC play.
