
Women's Tennis Earns Saturday OVC Win over Austin Peay

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State women's tennis team downed Austin Peay 4-3 for its second Ohio Valley Conference victory Saturday afternoon.
The Gamecocks (9-2, 2-1 OVC) rallied to top the Govs (5-6, 2-1 OVC) after falling behind 1-0 with the loss of the doubles point. Genevie Ulanday and Elena Tendero won the first set of doubles action 6-3, but back-to-back set wins for APSU at No. 2 and No. 3 gave the visitors an early advantage.
Jacksonville State went on to win four of the six singles contest, winning at No. 2 and the last three slots in a row. Malin Buechner won 6-1 in consecutive sets over the Govs' No. 2 Fabienne Schmidt.
Tendero remained undefeated for the day with a 6-1, 6-1 win over No. 4 Claudia Yanes Garcia, and Diana Monsalve topped Brittany Covington 7-5, 6-0 in an exciting win at No. 5. Alba Conejero sealed the match win over Austin Peay with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Ana Albertson in the No. 6 position.
The Gamecocks are back in action in Oxford, Ala., on Sunday, taking on OVC foe Murray State at 10 a.m.
