CLARKSVILLE – Junior
Emma Meadows posted her first goal of the season in Jacksonville State's 4-1 setback to Austin Peay in Ohio Valley Conference soccer action on Friday night on the APSU campus.
The Gamecocks dropped to 3-6-2 overall and 1-2 in the conference, while the Govs improved to 7-4-1 on the season and pushed their league mark to 2-2-1.  Jax State's weekend road trip will continue on Sunday in Murray, Kentucky with a 1 p.m. match against the Racers of Murray State.
Meadows, from Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada, registered JSU's goal in the 64th minute.  She connected on the goal with a high-arching shot from outside the box.  The scoring play was the third of her career and second against OVC competition.  Meadows, along with freshman
Maisie Paulson combined to highlight the Gamecocks' in the road loss.
"Emma (Meadows) was great on both sides of the ball.  She kept possession and was creative," said head coach
Neil Macdonald.  "She defended the midfield brilliantly.  Maisie (Paulson) really looked like a veteran player and was really committed," added Macdonald.
It was a tough night offensively for Jax State as it was limited to just five total shots, while APSU finished with 20 in the win, including 11 in the opening 45 minutes.  Junior
Nadia Plawiuk was the only Gamecock with multiple shots.
"From a team performance, I thought it was poor.  We did not execute the game plan and we struggled to keep possession," mentioned Macdonald.
The Govs took the early lead with a goal in the 16th minute by Claire Larose.  Larose would cap off a two-goal night with APSU's final scoring play in the 72nd minute.  Larose was joined by Caroline Wistrom, who also had a pair of goals along with being credited with an assist on Larose's opening goal.  Wistrom's second goal answered JSU's goal by Meadows.
Sunday's outing against the Racers will be available on the OVC Digital Network.  MSU blanked Tennessee Tech, 2-0, on Friday.
