Tipoff Tidbits
- Ray Harper enters the Emerald Coast Classic with a 499-167 career record. He is entering his 21st season as a college head coach and fourth with the Gamecocks. The mark includes his Division II and NAIA head coach records, while his Division I head coaching record stands at 157-103. He is also just seven wins from reaching his 75th as JSU head coach.
- The Gamecocks enter the Emerald Coast Classic having lost its two campus-site tournament games. VCU bested JSU 93-65 on Nov. 17 before Purdue overpowered Jacksonville State 81-49 on Nov. 23. The Gamecocks are now 1-5 all-time in ECC games and 0-4 in campus-site games. JSU is 1-1 in ECC games played in Niceville, Fla.
- Chicago State represents the first familiar opponent for the Gamecocks in 2019-20, owning a 1-1 record vs. CSU. The first four games of the season were against first-time opponents (SMU, Brescia, VCU and Purdue).
- JSU's 125-55 win over Brescia on Nov. 12 set the program record for most points scored by the Gamecocks in a single game. The previous record was 112 scored against Shorter on Nov. 23, 2004.
A win would…
- Mark Ray Harper's 500th career head coaching win.
- Give the Gamecocks their second win over Chicago State and a 2-1 advantage in the series.
- Advance Jacksonville State to the championship game of the Emerald Coast Classic.
