Gamecocks Travel to Miami for Thanksgiving Classic - Jacksonville State University Athletics

MIAMI, Fla. – The Jacksonville State women's basketball team prepares to open the Florida International Thanksgiving Classic on Friday with two games over the weekend in the southern part of the Sunshine State.

JSU (3-3) will begin play on Friday at FIU's Ocean Bank Convention Center, taking on the Norse of Northern Kentucky (2-4), before meeting Oakland University on Sunday morning to conclude the Gamecocks' time in South Beach.

JSU's only previous meeting with either school was a loss to NKU during the 1989-90 season when both schools were Division II. With NKU and OU both members of the Horizon League, this weekend marks JSU's first games against any of the current Horizon League lineup.

Senior Destiney Elliott and junior Taylor Hawks lead JSU averaging just over 13 points per game, while Elliott also leads the Gamecocks in rebounding. Returning to her home state for the second-straight season, Florida-native, Jessie Day, enters having started four of JSU's six contests this season and posted new career highs in points and rebounds earlier this year.

Still looking for its first road win of the season, both of this weekend's games will officially be neutral sites contests as Jax State won't meet event-host FIU. JSU's Friday game with NKU will begin at 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT, while Sunday's meeting with Oakland will tip-off at 12 p.m. ET/11 a.m. CT.
