RESULTS
TROY – After opening the outdoor season at home last weekend, the Jacksonville State track and field team hit the road for its second outdoor meet with the Doc Anderson Invitational hosted by Troy.
Jax State came home third in the two-day competition with 100 points, behind host Troy and Towson University.
JSU saw its best performances on the track come in the distance events, led by newcomer
Chemutai Nereo's victory in the 3,000-meter race with a new person best time of 10:31.91. The Gamecocks bookended the scoring in the 3,000 as
Autumn Rich (11:21.89) took eighth in the extended race. Nereo also earned a fifth-place finish in the 1,500-meter event with a time of 4:58.68.
The Gamecocks turned up the heat as the hurdles hit the track. In the 100-meter hurdle race,
Tylynn Register (14.84) took fifth, ahead of fellow Gamecock
Leandra Custodio in eighth at 15.05. Just missing the scoring mark was
Ashton Coats 10
th. That trio then finished back-to-back-to-back in the 400-meter hurdles to combine for 19 points as Register finished runner-up, just ahead of Custodio and Coats.
Zaria Coprich capped JSU's scorers in the 400 with a sixth-place time 1:13.65.
In the field, junior
Madison Rollins broke through for her first victory in the high jump this year, after a series of podium finishes during the indoor season. The native of Chanute, Kan., cleared 1.65 meters to top Towson's Naja McAdams.
After her hurdle success, Register also scored in the field with a fifth-place spot in the long jump at 5.14 meters, just ahead of teammate
Emily Burrowes at 5.09 meters. Freshman
Jahleah Harris just edged in for the eighth spot to secure another point for JSU with a distance of 5.07 meters.
In the triple jump, Burrowes joined
Tamaya Mitchell to finish third and fourth for another good day in the jumps for JSU.
Greta Romei's runner-up spot in the javelin led the way for the Gamecock throwers, while
Imani Debrow came home fourth in the event with a personal best throw of 39.88 meters. Romei also set a new PB at 44.03 meters.
Mary Cagle and
Adrian Rock carried JSU to point finishes in the shot put, discus and hammer throws.
JSU heads to Starkville, Miss., next weekend for the Bulldog Relays at Mississippi State.
