Gamecocks Host Tigers, Crimson Tide in Midweek Set

JACKSONVILLE – For the first time in program history, Jacksonville State will host Auburn and Alabama on back-to-back nights when the Tigers and Crimson Tide visit Rudy Abbott Field at Jim Case Stadium on Tuesday and Wednesday evening.

First pitch for both in-state battles is set for 6 p.m.  Limited tickets are available for both midweek outings.  Reserved tickets for each match up are $20, while general admission tickets are $15. General admission tickets do not reserve a seat in the main seating area but are good for the berm down the left field line or for standing room on the concourse. Tickets are available online at JSUGamecockSports.com/Tickets and at the JSU Athletic Ticket office at Pete Mathews Coliseum. Tickets will also be available at the box office at Rudy Abbott Field at Jim Case Stadium.

The Gamecocks enter the week having won seven of their last 10 games, including an 11-6 decision over AU at Plainsman Park on April 9.  JSU scored 11 unanswered runs after trailing 6-0 early in the contest.   JSU, the leaders in the Ohio Valley Conference (12-6), holds a 21-17 overall mark after claiming its four consecutive league series against Eastern Kentucky in Richmond, Kentucky.  Auburn, ranked as high as No. 20 by Baseball America, stands at 26-14 on the season after taking a series against Ole Miss in Auburn over the weekend.  The Crimson Tide will visit Jacksonville with a record of 24-17.  UA dropped all three games to Vanderbilt in Tuscaloosa.  Jax State will be looking to avenge an early season setback to UA.  Dating back to the 2017 season, JSU has won three-of-the-last-five matchups with the Crimson Tide with all five meetings in Tuscaloosa.

Auburn is making its sixth overall trip to JSU and the first since the 2013 season.  Alabama is making its first trip to Rudy Abbott Field since 2014.  The AU and UA games are the first of three home outings against Southeastern Conference foes.  The Bulldogs of Georgia will make a return trip to Jacksonville on May 8.

Senior catcher Nic Gaddis continues to lead the Gamecocks at the plate with a .343 batting average.  Gaddis, who was named to the Buster Posey Award watch list in March, has a team-best 48 hots, including 19 extra base hits.  The Trenton, Georgia native leads the club in home runs with eight and has delivered 26 RBI.  Junior Alex Webb is also hitting above the .300 mark with 41 hits and a team-high 13 doubles.  The Columbia, Tennessee product has a team-best 31 RBI.  In the month of April, Webb has highlighted JSU's offensive numbers, which has helped the club to seven wins in the last 10 games.  Over the last 10 games, Webb has raised his average to .389 with 14 hits, including six doubles and three home runs.

JSU's homestand continues this weekend with a pivotal OVC series against the Eagles of Morehead State.  The series gets underway on Friday on Rudy Abbott Field at Jim Case Stadium.  First pitch is set for 6 p.m.  The series continues on Saturday at 6 p.m. before wrapping up the set on Sunday at 1 p.m.
