Gamecock Football To Play at Florida State in 2021

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State football team will travel to play Florida State in 2021, the Gamecocks and Seminoles announced on Tuesday.

JSU will take on FSU on Sept. 11, 2021, the Gamecocks' third trip to Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee and their first since a 19-9 loss in 2009. The series with the Seminoles is tied 1-1 after a 7-0 JSU win in 1947.

"We couldn't be more excited to add this game to our schedule in 2021," Athletics Director Greg Seitz said. " We are thankful to Florida State for the opportunity to put one of the nation's top programs back on our schedule and for giving us the opportunity to showcase our program against the highest level. I know our coaches, players and fans will be excited to return to Tallahassee to face the Seminoles."

It will mark the second-straight season with a Football Bowl Subdivision foe on the Gamecocks' schedule after opening the 2020 season at Florida International of Conference USA. The game at FIU is JSU's first against an FBS foe since 2017, which was also the last time the Gamecocks faced a Power 5 team.

They took on Georgia Tech in 2017, the last in a streak of 13-straight seasons with at least one FBS opponent. The Gamecocks are 5-20 all-time against FBS teams, with their last win coming at Georgia State in 2013. They also defeated Ole Miss in a double-overtime thriller in 2010.

JSU's last trip to Florida State almost saw one of those upsets. The Seminoles scored 12 points in the final 35 seconds of the game to pull off a 19-9 win. The Gamecocks led 9-6 until a Florida State touchdown run with 35 seconds to play and a fumble recovery for a score with 21 seconds to play turned the game in FSU's favor.
