JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State women's tennis team dropped a close 4-3 decision to North Alabama on Wednesday at the JSU Tennis Courts.

The Gamecocks (2-3) nearly completed the comeback against the Lions (2-3) despite going down 3-0 in the early goings. The final two matches of the contest came down to three sets decided by a combined difference of four points.

Jax State fell in all three doubles sets, dropping two by two points or less, to see UNA go ahead 1-0 early.

Kalais Going blanked
Alessia Locati in straight sets, and Nina Linke won 6-3, 6-1 over
Martina Zarza at No. 5 to push the North Alabama lead to 3-0.

The Gamecocks rallied back for three points in the next three games, tying the match 3-3 with one to go.
Dariana Prato defeated Megan Humphreys 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 beforeÂ
Harriet Hamilton bested Payton Andrews 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1.Â
Charlie Croteau tied the match by taking down Ida Hasselbalch 6-3 in three sets.

It all came down to the No. 2 contest, but JSU came away on the losing end of a three-set match. Senior
Malin Buechner was defeated 7-6 in a close third-set finish to Sydney Flesch at No. 2.

Jacksonville State returns to actions Saturday, Feb. 13 with a 10 a.m. home match against Southern Mississippi.
