SAVANNAH, Ga. – Led once again by senior
Claire Vermette, the Jacksonville State women's golf team wrapped up The Southern on Wednesday by finishing eighth.
Vermette tied for 15
th in the three-day, 54-hole tournament after shooting a total score of 230 on the par-72, 6,036-yard Savannah Golf Club. She led the Gamecocks for the second time in three events so far this fall.
The St. Petersburg, Fla., native used rounds of 76-74-80 to account for her 54-hole score that saw her finish just three shots out of the Top 10. She made two of her five birdies in the tournament on Wednesday and was tied for fourth in the field with 34 total pars in the event.
The Gamecocks turned in a team score of 949 over the 54-hole event, finishing just behind defending ASUN Champions North Florida in seventh place.
Freshman
Ebby Somers had a solid debut for Jax State. The native of Valdosta, Ga., was playing in her first collegiate tournament and was the Gamecocks' second-best finisher in 35
th place. Somers shot rounds of 77-79-81 to make up a 54-hole score of 237 and signed for a total of 30 pars and had the Gamecocks' lone eagle of the tournament with her three on the par-5 first hole in Monday's round.
Sophomore
Paula Perez Cubinas tied for 40
th with a 54-hole score of 240 after rounds of 82-77-81, while the freshman pair of
Luciana Calbimonte and
Anna Ymbern Quinoa rounded out the Gamecocks lineup in 52
ndand 53
rd place, respectively. Calbimonte shot 245 (81-79-85) and Ymbern Quinoa turned in a 249 (79-84-86).
Freshman
Aaron Whitley represented Jax State as an individual and finished 58
th with a score of 258 (82-84-92). The Gamecocks will head to Charlotte, where they will compete in the Charlotte Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at the Cabarrus Country Club.
