Gamecock Soccer Falls at North Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A North Florida goal in the final five minutes of the Sunday afternoon match was the difference as Jacksonville dropped a 1-0 ASUN Conference match at Hodges Stadium on the UNF campus.

UNF's Jersi Dadah delivered the open net goal in the 85th minute after the Ospreys created a late scoring tun. Dadah finished the chance after it was set up by Allie Fekany and Averi Walraven. With the win UNF improved to 3-5-1 overall and pulled even in league play at 2-2. The Gamecocks fell to 2-10 on the season and 0-4 in conference.

The Gamecocks had their chances throughout the match, including a controlling effort in the second half. Jax State tallied six second half opportunities, including a free kick from Kylie Wells that hit the cross bar. The free kick came after an Osprey was sent off with a red card in the 74th minute. Wells gave JSU a spark off the bench with four shot attempts in the setback, including three on goal looks. Both teams finished with nine shots each in the matinee.

"It was an excellent performance on the road. We competed really well for 90 minutes and everyone did their job," said head coach Neil Macdonald. "We got caught on a counter as we were pushing for the winning goal."

Junior Vanessa Mejia, senior Ali Thomas, junior Brookelyn Still, senior Briana Eads and freshman Camryn Davis all had a shot attempt. Freshman goalkeeper Bailey Dean made a pair of stops, while UNF's goalkeeper, Sofia Miliancano collected four saves.

The Gamecocks return to action with a pair of road outings next weekend in Conway, Arkansas and Florence, Alabama. The trip begins on Thursday against the Sugar Bears of Central Arkansas at 7 p.m. followed by a 1 p.m. duel with North Alabama on Sunday.
