CONWAY, Ark. – Junior
Kylie Wells delivered a goal in each half as Jacksonville State and Central Arkansas played to a 2-2 draw in ASUN women's soccer action on Thursday night.
Wells gave JSU a 1-0 lead through the first 45 minutes of action and gave her club the advantage in the second half, but the Bears leveled the match on two occasions in the final 45 minutes to gain a draw with Jax State. With no overtime in NCAA soccer this season, it was JSU's first draw of the season and the first since a 1-1 decision last season against Bellarmine. JSU moved to 2-10-1 on the season and 0-4-1 in ASUN action. The draw was the third of the season for the Bears (4-7-3, 2-3-2 ASUN) and second in the league.
Wells, a native of Littleton, Colorado had a stellar night with her first multiple goal match of her career and finished with six total shots, including four in the first 45 minutes and a pair of shots on goal. The first goal came in the 21st minute of the contest, while the second netted ball came from a penalty kick in the 67th minute.
"
Kylie Wells had an outstanding game. She was very positive on the ball and aggressive without it," said head coach
Neil Macdonald. "I also thought
Ali Thomas was excellent with tireless work in the middle of the park."
For the second consecutive match, Macdonald noted the excellent team performance from his club, who was playing the second of three consecutive matches on the road. After both sides combined for 10 total shots combined in the first half, UCA held a plus-10 advantage in shots in the second half. The Bears held JSU to five shots in the second half.
UCA equalized five minutes into the second half with a goal from Anna Kerr and tallied the second equalizing goal 30 seconds after Wells' perfected penalty kick. UCA's Sydney Brough quickly leveled the contest in the 68th minute. Both teams had opportunities to put a third goal on the scoreboard through the final 22 minutes.
"Everyone was giving 100 percent in the match and it was a good result on the road against a quality opposition," added Macdonald.
Freshman
Bailey Dean turned in another solid effort in goal with seven saves in the draw.
JSU's road trip continues on Sunday as it makes a stop in Florence, Alabama on the way back home. The match with North Alabama is set for 1 p.m. on the UNA campus. The Lions blanked Kennesaw State, 3-0, at the Bill Jones Athletic Complex on Thursday evening.
