JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State is set for its first road test of the season on Monday night when the Gamecocks visit the University of Illinois-Chicago for the first time inside Credit Union 1 Arena in Chicago.
The Flames (1-1) and Gamecocks (1-0) meet on the hardwood with both programs recently impacted by conference realignment. JSU's transition to the ASUN and next to C-USA has been well documented, but the Flames joined former Ohio Valley Conference foes Belmont and Murray State in a basketball shift to the Missouri Valley Conference beginning this season. Jax State's last game against a member of the MVC was an 85-59 win over Evansville at The Pete on Dec. 16, 2019. The Gamecocks haven't visited the Windy City since a 2013 meeting at Chicago State.
Jax State is coming off a 111-48 win over Shorter one week earlier on Nov. 7. Senior transfer
Skyelar Potter led the Gamecocks with 20 points as one of four players to reach double figures in the contest. Fellow newcomer Clarence "Monzy" Jackson finished with 17, a new career-high by two points in his firs game in the Red and White. Senior
Demaree King added 16 points, while redshirt-junior
Amanze Ngumezi pitched in 15 in his first action back from injury.
Down low,
Juwan Perdue pulled down a new career best with 11 boards against the Hawks, while
Maros Zeliznak posted eight points and three boards in his first start of the season in the paint.
Monday's contest will stream on ESPN+ with tip-off set for 7 p.m. Steaming and live stat links are available at JSUGamecockSports.com. Fans can also follow the action over the Gamecock Sports Network with Mike Parris on the play-by-play call.
