JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State defensive back
Fred Perry has been named to the STATS Perform FCS Freshman All-America Team, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Perry, a 5-foot-11 freshman from Warner Robins, Ga., was among 31 players listed to the Freshman All-America squad. Perry made an immediate impact for the Gamecock defense in 2022, leading the team with 72 total tackles to go along with an interception and fumble recovery. He was selected as the ASUN Freshman of the Week in early October after an 11-tackle game against Kennesaw State helped JSU limit the Owls to just 283 total yards and only 44 yards through the air.
Perry becomes the first Gamecock to earn Freshman All-America honors since J-Rock Swain following the fall 2020/spring 2021 season. His STATS Perform accolade signals Jax State's final FCS Freshman All-America honoree as the Gamecocks move to the FBS and Conference USA in 2023.
