Game Notes: Jacksonville State
JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State men's basketball team is set to put the finishing touches on a historic regular season campaign with Saturday's Senior Day matchup against North Alabama.
Having already clinched at least a share of the ASUN Conference regular-season crown, JSU's first Division I regular-season title, the Gamecocks (19-9, 12-3 ASUN) can claim the championship outright with a win over the rival Lions (9-19, 2-13 ASUN). Saturday's game is set to tip at 1 p.m. as required for all men's games across the ASUN on the final day of the regular season. It will precede the JSU/UNA women's contest.
The league requires all results to be in early on Saturday to be able to set the men's tournament field that begins two days later. The Gamecocks have already earned the right to host throughout their tournament run, and will open postseason play on Thursday, March 3 in the quarterfinal round.
Saturday's matchup bookends a dominant ASUN slate for the Gamecocks which began at North Alabama on Jan. 8 with a 65-55 road win. Following the men's game, JSU's four seniors who have played such a vital role in the championship campaign will each be honored prior to the start of the women's contest. Senior
Darian Adams, JSU's leading scorer, along with
Brandon Huffman, the team's leading rebounder, will be recognized along with
Kayne Henry and
Jalen Gibbs.
Led by their senior core, the Gamecocks have a chance to reach the 20-win plateau for the fourth time under sixth-year head coach
Ray Harper.
In addition to recognizing both men and women senior players between Saturday's game, the JSU senior cheerleaders will be recognized at halftime of the men's contest. JSU's Go-Go's will also be performing a halftime routine. All JSU fans and ages 18 and under receive free admission on Saturday.
While at Pete Mathews Coliseum on Saturday, fans will have the opportunity to purchase ASUN Championship tickets in person in the main lobby. Tickets for the quarterfinals and semifinals will be $10 for adults and $5 for children between the ages of 3-18. JSU students will be admitted for free with their student ID. Should JSU advance to the Championship Game, Adult tickets will be $15. Season ticket packages for the 2021-22 season do not include postseason tickets, so all fans must purchase tickets to the ASUN Tournament.
