JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State dropped a pair of games to North Alabama on Saturday, 9-3 and 7-2, and now stand at 9-8 in ASUN Conference action.
The Lions (32-12, 11-6 ASUN) started slow in the opened contest as JSU's
Kat Carter silenced the UNA lineup with five no-hit innings to begin play. Meanwhile, senior
Addie Robinson connected on a pair of solo home runs to left field in the second and fourth inning.
Abbi Perkins followed with a solo shot after Robinson in the fourth to push the Gamecock lead to 3-0.
In the top of the fifth, Carter allowed her first baserunner with a one-out walk. UNA would eventually load the bases, but a fly out to left ended the frame without damage. It was a different story in the sixth however, after back-to-back groundouts the Lions loaded the bases once again with a single, hit-by-pitch and walk. UNA's Harley Stokes but the visitors ahead with one swing on a grand dlam to right.
JSU was unable to respond after loading the bases in the bottom of the sixth and UNA took full control in the final frame with their second grand slam of the contest en route to a 9-3 win.
The Lions maintained the offensive momentum into game two of the day where they scored in four of the first five innings to lead 7-0 heading into the sixth. After a
Camryn McLemore double to begin the bottom of the seventh for JSU, Robinson lifted her third homer of the day over the fence to trim the deficit to five. The Five Points, Ala., native, finished 5-for-7 from the plate on Saturday with three homers and four RBI. JSU added base runners with
Hannah Buffington and
Holly Stewart pinch hitting late, but the rally fell short, 7-2.
JSU and UNA wrap up the three-game series on Sunday afternoon at University Field at 1 p.m.
