JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State softball team put the brakes on a short three-game skid in a big way Sunday with four home runs in an 11-5 win in the series finale against North Alabama.
The Gamecocks (26-19, 10-8 ASUN) gave up a run in the top of the first to UNA (32-13, 11-7 ASUN), before Saturday's star
Addie Robinson put JSU on the right track in the home half of the inning. Robinson, who finished 5-for-7 with three solo home runs between Saturday's two matchups, opened Sunday with a three-run shot to straightaway center field.
The ball jumped out of the park with six combined homers between the two squads. A two-run longball from UNA's Taylor Brown evened the score again in the second.
Kat Carter picked up the win with five innings of work after the Gamecocks moved back in front in the third. She moved to 14-9 after allowing five runs on the day before
Lexi Androlevich entered for the final six outs. On the opposite side, the Lions used five different pitchers in the circle as the Gamecocks seemingly tagged one after another.
UNA's Sophie Goliver was saddled with the loss after allowing four runs in the third frame.
Karsen Mosley tripled to open the inning, and easily scored on a double from
Megan Fortner. A single for
Camryn McLemore brought Fortner around the bases for a 503 advantage. JSU loaded the bases with two outs for
Keeli Bobbitt to hit a hot shot right back off the pitcher's leg and skid out of the infield to score
Savannah Sudduth and
Abbi Perkins.
Fortner would score again in the fourth off a pinch-hit double from
Holly Stewart. The Lions struck for a pair of home runs in the fifth, but Carter limited the damage to solo shots in her final frame of work. With an 8-5 lead, JSU tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the sixth from McLemore and Perkins solo blasts.
JSU is scheduled to host Alabama State at 5 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon at University Field.
