FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Jacksonville State softball team dropped a 3-0 decision on Sunday at Florida Gulf Coast to wrap up a three-game ASUN Conference series at the FGCU Softball Complex.
The Eagles (13-22, 6-6 ASUN) got a stellar outing from pitcher Ally Hulme, who limited the Gamecocks (20-15, 4-5 ASUN) to three hits over her seven innings in the circle. She outdueled JSU starter
Sarah Currie, who allowed three runs a day after tossing a four-hit shutout of FGCU.
Currie, a freshman from Lawrenceville, Ga., pitched well again and kept FGCU scoreless through three before a fourth-inning solo homer from Cana Davis broke the tie and put the Eagles up, 1-0. Tayli Filla provided the other runs for FGCU with a two-run homer in the sixth that put the Gamecocks in a 3-0 hole with only three outs to play with.
The Gamecocks had two doubles in their three hits, with
Sidney Wagnon and
Karsen Mosley recording them.
Camryn McLemore picked up a single for JSU.
The Eagles had eight hits, five that went for extra bases. Along with the two homers, Emily Estroff, Reedy Davenport and Neely Peterson each doubled for FGCU.
Hulme (9-9) struck out four and walked one in her seven shutout innings, while Currie (8-4) allowed three runs on eight hits while striking out five.
The Gamecocks will play a pair of in-state games this week, traveling to Montgomery on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. game at Alabama State and then to Albertville on Wednesday for the Sand Mountain Showdown vs. No. 4 Alabama at 6 p.m. The game, rescheduled from last week because of weather, will be held at Sand Mountain Park and is sold out.
