JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Senior
Greta Romei notched a new career best with a runner-up finish in the javelin throw to lead JSU at the final regular season meet of the Spring.
The Gamecocks took part in the highly competitive North Florida Invite in Jacksonville, Fla., getting an early look at the site of the ASUN Championships in two weeks. The UNF Invite featured Florida, Virginia Tech, Miami, Central Florida and South Florida among others.
Romei tossed a new personal mark of 44.26 meters for second in the javelin event, finishing runner-up to Florida State's Kelechi Nwanaga. Teammate
Imani Debrow made it two Gamecocks in the top five with a throw of 40.91 meters.
Sophomore
Bethany Davis earned another top five for JSU in the field with a fourth-place finish in the pole vault clearing 3.45 meters. Teammate
Kayley Stanley reached a height of 3.30 meters.
Madesen Holman and
Ayanna Rollins finished less than a second away from new career bests in the 100 meter events at 12.35 and 12.47 seconds. The duo also had strong showings in the 200 meters along with
Leandra Custodio, who's 25.79 time marked a new personal best.
In distance events,
Sierra Wainer came a tenth of a second shy of a new career mark in the 1,500 with a time of 4:54.24. She also placed third in the 5,000 meter Open Division with a time of 19:24.12.
Hailey Tucker led JSU's hurdle efforts with 14th in the 400-meter hurdles clocking a 1:03.24 to narrowly miss a personal best of her own. Senior
Tylynn Register placed 17th in the 400h, while
Ashton Coats came home 19th in the 100-meter hurdles.
JSU will be back in action in Jacksonville, Florida in two weeks at the 2022 ASUN Outdoor Championships beginning on May 12.
