Gamecocks Blast Past Lipscomb In Extras, Stay Alive In ASUN

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.  – Senior Karsen Mosley's walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning of Tuesday's ASUN Conference Tournament play-in game lifted the Gamecocks to a 6-5 win over Lipscomb and kept JSU's season alive.

Mosley's walk-off heroics handed No. 5 seed Jax State (31-22) its first lead of the day after a Bisons (20-32) run in the top of the first gave them an early lead to begin the day.

JSU trailed 3-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh, and later 5-3 in the ninth. Mosley finished with three hits on the day, trailing only Addie Robinson, who finished 4-for-5 with late-game heroics of her own that included a two-run single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to extend the contest to extras.

After a quiet eighth, LU drove in two runs on one swing of the bat on a triple in the top of the ninth. Three outs away from elimination with a two-run deficit for the second time in three innings, the Gamecocks struck early to begin the bottom half of the frame with back-to-back home runs from Megan Fortner and Camryn McLemore to knot things up at 5-5.

Sarah Currie came in to relieve ASUN Freshman of the Year, Kat Carter, in the ninth inning after a career-high 151-pitch outing. Currie closed the door for two outs in the ninth and sat the LU batters down in order in the top of the 10th to set up Mosley's big moment. Currie collected the win to move to 13-8 on the season. Carter's 8.1 innings featured five strikeouts along with five runs allowed.

A groundout for JSU opened the bottom of the 10th, which sent Mosley to the plate where she lifted the game-winner way above the left field fence. The 10 inning contest was the second longest of the season for the Gamecocks, after a 3-2 win over UL Monroe in 11 innings way back on Feb. 19 in Hattiesburg, Miss.

Jax State advances into the double-elimination portion of the tournament with the victory and will face the fourth-seeded North Alabama Lions on Wednesday at 3 p.m. ET. 2 p.m. CT from the Pruitt Softball Complex on the campus of Jacksonville University.
