HUNTSVILLE – A late goal by Alabama A&M was the difference in the contest as the Jacksonville State soccer tram dropped a 1-0 decision to the Bulldogs on Friday afternoon on the AAMU campus.
The Gamecocks dropped to 0-3 on the season, while the Bulldogs improved to 2-1 with consecutive wins over Troy and JSU. Jax State will continue its first road trip of the season on Sunday, visiting another Southwestern Athletic Association member, Jackson State. The Bulldog's game-winning goal came in the 84th minute as Jameela Barrett got a break-away after a Gamecock attack to push the ball into the back of the net on the other end after JSU had one if it runs down into scoring territory. AAMU's Taylor McNeal started the break-away and was credited with the assist.
In a match the saw both teams presented with scoring chances throughout the 90 minutes, the two sides combined for 22 total shots with JSU having a slide edge, 12-10. AAMU had six looks in the opening half, while JSU had six in each 45-minute period. Junior

Ali Thomas has multiple scoring attempts. Wells led the club with three, while Thomas came off the bench to add a pair of shots. Junior

Ella Staub had an attempt. Staub was also playing in the shadows of her hometown of Harvest, Alabama.
"I thought we played really poor in the first half and we really didn't move the ball. We got caught up with confrontation, which they won and I think in the second half we started to move the ball better," said head coach
Neil Macdonald. "I thought we dominated the second half and created a few good chances. They caught us in a break-away as we were trying to push for a goal. It is a lesson learned and all credit to Alabama A&M, they have great team spirit and work ethic."
Freshman
Bailey Dean made her third consecutive start and staved off the Bulldogs' chances with a pair of saves.
