Jax State Soccer Falls at Jackson State

JACKSON, Miss. – For the second consecutive outing, a late goal was the difference as the Jacksonville State soccer team fell 1-0 to Jackson State on Sunday afternoon in the Magnolia State.

The loss drops the Gamecocks to 0-4 after the first two weekends of the 2002 season. Jax State will continue road activity next weekend with trips to Gardner-Webb on Thursday and Georgia State next Sunday.

After falling in similar fashion on Friday in Huntsville, Alabama in a 1-0 setback to Alabama A&M, the Tigers of Jackson State (1-3) capitalized on a goal in the 80th minute. JSU's Kendyl Terrell connected into the net on one of the Tigers' 11 total shots on the afternoon. The Tigers has six on-goal looks throughout the match.

"It was a better performance from Friday and we kept the ball better in possession on a really poor field,"said head coach Neil Macdonald. "We shot ourselves in the foot on the goal as we were caight in possession on the back, so another breay away goal when we are in control or in possession."

The Tigers limited Jax State's threat with just a pair of shots in the loss. Junior Kylie Wells recorded the pair of shot attempts, which occurred in the first 45 minutes. JSU's Maya-Joy Thompson led the match with three scoring chances.

Freshman Bailey Dean turned in five saves on the match.

Thursday's match with the Runnin' Bulldogs of GWU will get started at 3 p.m. CT.

"We have alot of work to do this week and we have to trust in the process as we get all our new players settled into the way we play," added Macdonald.
