JACKSONVILLE – Only six games into the ASUN Conference league slate, Jacksonville State will wrap up its season series with the Jacksonville Dolphins on Saturday at Pete Mathews Coliseum.
The Gamecocks (8-10, 1-4 ASUN) and Dolphins (9-7, 2-3 ASUN) met just 12 days ago in Jacksonville, Fla., where JSU went cold offensively in a 62-46 road loss. On Saturday, Jax State looks to reverse roles and continue what has been a strong 6-2 season on its home floor.
Saturday's tip-off is set for 4 p.m. and streams on ESPN+. Live stats are also available at JSUGamecockSports.com. The Gamecocks will hit the road next week for a pair on Sunshine State battles at Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson.
In Thursday's win over North Florida, JSU saw a new star emerge with sophomore
Marcellus Brigham Jr. posting a new career-high offensively for the second-straight game. The Memphis, Tenn., native, went off for 21 points in his first double-digit performance, and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds to fall one shy of a double-double. The Gamecocks and Ospreys exchanged the lead 11 teams total, but it was Brigham,
Juwan Perdue and Gamecocks' leading scorer
Skyelar Potter that propelled JSU to the win down the stretch.
The Gamecocks will need another efficient day scoring on Saturday, facing one of the toughest defenses that limited Jax State to 46 points less than two weeks ago. The two Jacksonville-based schools will square off at The Pete for the third time in less than a year on Saturday. JSU won last season's regular-season meeting, before JU edged out a three-point win on the semifinals of the ASUN Tournament last March.
