DALLAS – Following Jax State's 20-17 victory over Western Kentucky last week, a pair of Gamecocks have been honored as Conference USA Players of the Week.
 
Senior quarterback Zion Webb and junior kicker Alen Karajic received Offensive and Special Team Player of the Week honors after leading Jax State over the previously unbeaten in league play Hilltoppers.
 
Webb, a Phenix City, Ala., native, hung in through a slow start against CUSA favorite Western Kentucky before a career night leading the Gamecocks to a come-from-behind 20-17 win over the Hilltoppers. He ran for a career-high 146 yards and a touchdown on the ground on 28 carries, while also throwing for 218 yards on 22-for-39 passing to account for a career-high 364 yards of total offense. With Jax State trailing 17-10 with less than nine minutes to play, Webb orchestrated two scoring drives, an 11-play, 91-yard touchdown drive to tie the game with 4:40 to play and a 10-play, 45-yard drive that ended with the game-winning field goal as time expired.
 
That winning kick came courtesy of the CUSA Special Teams Player of the Week.
 
Karajic capped his night as the hero in Jax State's come-from-behind win over CUSA favorite WKU, making a 41-yard field goal as time expired to win the game. Overall, he was 2-for-2 on field goals in the game, making the 41-yard winner and a 23 yarder in the second quarter and converted 2-for-2 on PAT kicks. Karajic's final play heroics was the first game winning field goal as time expired by a Gamecock since Griffin Thomas beat Chattanooga in 2012 and the longest game winning FG by a Gamecocks since Thomas made a 44 yarder to beat Tennessee State in 2012.
 
With their performances, Webb and Karajic helped Jax State improve to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in conference. The Gamecocks continue their CUSA slate in Miami, Fla., Wednesday evening facing FIU on CBS Sports Network.
