Baseball Falls at No. 20 Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Senior T.J. Reeves returned to Tuscaloosa for the second time as a Gamecock and was the bright spot for Jacksonville State in a 17-3 setback to No. 20 Alabama on Tuesday afternoon at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

Reeves, who played for the Crimson Tide from 2019-21 before joining Jax State in 2022. The Birmingham, Alabama native provided the offense with his third home run of the season. Reeves reached base in his first two plate appearances with a single in the first and delivered a home run ball into the playground beyond the left field wall at UA. The two hits were the first against his former club as he did not have one in the two meetings last season. He has now hit in all eight games this season and his sixth multi-hit game of 2023. Reeves continues to show off his defensive skills with another highlighted catch up against the centerfield wall.

The Crimson Tide built the large deficit over the first four inning with seven in the second, added three more in the third and pushed six runs across the plate in the fourth. UA finished with 16 total hits, while the Gamecocks had 9.

Junior Mason Maners extended his on-base streak to 20 games dating back to the 2022 season with a single in the fifth inning. The Vestavia Hills, Alabama left fielder joins Reeves among the offensive leaders on the club. With his base hit, he pushed his hitting streak to six consecutive games.

Freshman Michael Dallas registered a pair of hits in the loss to card his first game at Jax State with multiple hits. Freshman Cole Smith collected his first Gamecock hit in his first collegiate at bat in a pinch hitting role, while sophomore Brennen Norton, Jarrett Eaton and Caleb Johnson recorded hits.

Jax State added a late RBI from freshman Will Fincher with a fielder's choice.

the Gamecocks will not play away from Rudy Abbott Field at Jim Case Stadium until March 21 as they will play 12 consecutive home games. The homestand begins with a three-game set with Bradley, which begins on Friday evening. The homestand will feature midweek contests with Auburn (March 8) and defending national champion Ole Miss (March 14). Tickets are available online at JSUGamecockSports.com.

Game times for the weekend series with the Braves of BU are 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, while the series finale is scheduled for 1 p.m.
