JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Gamecock beach volleyball suffered two losses in Saturday's Jacksonville University Tournament to round out their Spring Break trip to the Sunshine State. Jacksonville State was swept by Jacksonville in their first showing before falling to Mercer, 5-0, in the finale.

Jax State (0-9-3) could not topple the Dolphins (8-11) in Saturday's opening test. JU downed the Gamecocks for the second time this Spring, posting four two-set wins along with a forfeit victory on court five.

Their second meeting of the weekend against Mercer (3-17) went similar to Friday's sweep defeat. The Bears again flexed their muscles, tallying a trio of two-set triumphs in Duval County, Fla. Jacksonville State's best outing of the day came in the no. 2 pair, as Isabelle Fuell and Brooklyn Schiffli forced a decisive third set before falling to MU.

The Gamecocks return to play next weekend in the UAB Beach Classic in Birmingham. That two-day event in the Magic City will start on Friday with morning matches against UL Monroe and Austin Peay. After facing off with Mercer on Saturday morning, Jax State will finish up action at UAB against the host Blazers.

Next weekend's test in Birmingham will be Jacksonville State's penultimate tune-up ahead of the C-USA Beach Volleyball Tournament. Michael Haars' squad will travel to Clarskville, Tenn., for the Austin Peay Tournament on Apr. 14-15 before playing in the conference bash Apr. 27-30 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
