ATLANTA – After leading the Jacksonville State men's golf team to a Top-Five finish at the Tunica National Intercollegiate earlier this week, junior Erik Jansson has been named the ASUN Men's Golfer of the Week.
Jansson, a junior from Vasteras, Sweden, posted two scores under par and finished in the top 10 to lead the Gamecocks to fifth place in the event. The Gamecocks posted a final round 289 to cap a 54-hole 878 on the par-72, 7,204-yard Tunica National Course.
Jansson tied for seventh in the 71-player field with a 2-under score of 214. He had under par rounds to open the two-day event on Monday morning and also posted scores under par in Tuesday's final round.
Jansson used his final-round 69 to jump six spots on the leaderboard on the final day to get to his 215 and into seventh place. He opened his tournament with a 2-under 70 on Monday morning and then carded a 75 in the afternoon round to get him in position for a final-day run. He made four birdies and an eagle on Tuesday, including a 3-under back nine to close the tournament.
He and the Gamecocks will head to Mobile, Ala., where they will compete in the 2023 ASUN Championship from April 25-27 at Magnolia Grove on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.
