JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State's Brooklyn Schiffli netted a massive accolade on Wednesday afternoon when the sophomore was named to Conference USA's Beach Volleyball All-Academic First Team. The Indianapolis, Ind., native earned that selection after boasting a strong grade point average and leading the charge for a young group of Gamecocks this Spring.
"We're very proud of Brooklyn's accomplishments on and off the court," interim head coach Michael Haars said. "She's a great leader with tremendous potential, and she deserves this honor."
Schiffli has followed up a productive freshman campaign in the sand with a pair of massive victories for Jax State in 2023. The standout added a big triumph against the State College of Florida on March 21, as she and Isabelle Fuell teamed up on court two to down their SCF opponents in three sets. After that exciting result in Saint Leo, Fla., Schiffli and Carley Lynch scored a decisive two-set result against Chattanooga in the regular season finale on Apr. 15. That third-flight win against the Mocs came in the Govs Beach Bash in Clarksville, Tenn., and provided a big boost for a Jacksonville State squad looking for an upset.
The second-year star burst onto the scene in 2022 as a freshman, where she finished with six decisions in her first season of beach volleyball. Schiffli received most of her work in the fourth flight alongside partner Paulina Lindberg. A former high school All-State selection in Indiana, she has served as an important contributor for the Gamecocks' indoor volleyball team over the past two years as well.
Along with her impressive outings in the sand, Schiffli has also shined in the classroom in Jacksonville. The sophomore has a 3.89 GPA at Jacksonville State University and is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Education through Jax State's Health & Physical Education program. This marks the first All-Academic award in Schiffli's career.
Schiffli and the Gamecocks start play in the Conference USA Beach Volleyball Championship on Thursday morning in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Six-seed Jax State (0-17-3) takes on three-seed Tulane (22-8) at 9:30 a.m. at Fort Lauderdale Beach Park.
