Six Gamecocks Earn All-ASUN Conference Honors

DELAND, Fla. - The ASUN Conference released the 2023 ASUN Baseball Postseason Honors and Awards on the eve of the 2023 ASUN Baseball Championship with Jacksonville State placing six on the All-ASUN First Team, All-ASUN Second Team, All-ASUN Third Team and the ASUN All-Freshman Team combined.

Senior T.J. Reeves headlined the group as an All-ASUN First Team selection and a two-time All-ASUN performer after being named to the All-ASUN Second Team as a junior in 2022. Junior Javon Hernandez, junior Mason Maners and sophomore Aj Causey earned spots on the All-ASUN Second Team. Freshman Eli Zielinski was named to the All-ASUN Third team and a member of the league's all-freshman team. Freshman Bear Madliak joined Zielinski on the first-year player club.

Reeves, from Birmingham, Alabama, maintained his all conference status with a stellar 2023 campaign after his first season with the program in 2022. He matched Edrick Felix of Florida Gulf Coast for the league lead in hits with 85 on the season, including 61 against ASUN pitching. Felix was voted ASUN Player of the Year by the coaches in the league. The Gamecocks' second baseman hit over .600 in four of the 10 ASUN weekends (Bellarmine, Jacksonville, North Florida, Queens) and posted a weekend average of .500 or better in two weekends. Hernandez put together a span of 18 games straight of reaching base, including 12 versus ASUN foes.

Maners, from Vestavia Hills, Alabama, maintained a steady bat throughout the regular season with a .350 batting average overall and was 17 percentage points better against ASUN arms with a .367 clip. Causey posted three double digit strikeout total games, including back-to-back 12 strikeout performances against ASUN foes. He collected a save in JSU's win over then-No. 2 ranked Ole Miss with a clean ninth inning.

Zielinski was on track to one of the spots on the first team after starting the season with six wins before suffering an injury following the weekend series with Jacksonville. The Daphne, Alabama lefty made an impression on the mound in the first nine outings of the season as Jax State's Sunday starter from opening weekend until the injury. He tossed a season-best 6.2 innings vs. the Dolphins with 11 strikeouts. Zielinski was a perfect 6-0 with three wins versus ASUN competition before his first season as a Gamecock was cut short. He accumulated 33 strikeouts in 27.2 innings of work in the ASUN and opposing teams in the league hit .242 against him.

Madliak, who joined the program after redshirting at Georgia last season, stepped in as the everyday catcher for the club and eventually took over the leadoff spot in the Gamecock lineup.
